SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF GLENDALE welcomes passionate and dedicated volunteers who are interested in improving the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

ABOUT US: We are Soroptimist International of Glendale a local service club of a global volunteer organization of over 77,000 members worldwide founded in 1921, that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. We use our collective power to provide women and girls with the resources and opportunities they need to reach their full potential and live their dreams. SI Glendale is within the Soroptimist International of the Americas Federation, one of five federations that make up Soroptimist International, which has clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the world. Today, our federation has about 30,000 members and supporters in countries across North America, Latin America and the Pacific Rim.

WHAT WE DO: Soroptimist is all about empowering women and girls. But what does that really mean? Women are economically empowered when they have control over their own finances and well-being, and when they have a voice in the financial decisions to shape their lives and the lives of their families. When women and girls are empowered, they have a sense of autonomy, self-confidence, and the power to control their private and public lives. We focus on access to education because we believe it’s the most effective way toward empowerment. We do this through our Dream Programs and by supporting local community organizations that focus on women and girls.

MEETING SCHEDULE: We meet in-person the first Thursday of each month at 12:00 NOON at Oakmont Country Club. Please join us and RSVP by email to

OUR DREAM PROGRAMS and SIGNATURE EVENTS: Soroptimist LIVE YOUR DREAM: Education and Training Awards for Women This is a unique education award for women who provide the primary financial support for their families. The Live Your Dream Awards give women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. Over half of our Live Your Dream Awards recipients are survivors of domestic violence, trafficking or sexual assault. Nearly all of the women and families we serve have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, teen pregnancy, and drug or alcohol addiction. Live Your Dream Awards recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation.

DREAM IT, BE IT: Career Support for Girls Soroptimist clubs work in partnership with girls ages 14 -17 in small groups or a conference setting to provide them with the information and resources they want and need to be successful. By reaching girls while they are still young, we not only can help them stay healthy and safe in the short term, but we can reduce the number of women in crisis in the future. Putting them on a path will help them realize their dreams. Soroptimist International of Glendale P. O. Box 826 Glendale, CA 91209

BRAS FOR A CAUSE: – Our Signature Fundraising Event Bras for a Cause is our signature fundraiser. Since 2004, this premier event has featured bras decorated by members of our community highlighting a yearly theme. The event includes entertainment, raffles, and silent and live auctions. Through an evening of fun, food and friendship, we raise the funds necessary to support our Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards, our Dream It, Be It Career Support for Girls Program and the Service Grants Awards that are awarded to other community service organizations for programs that focus on women and girls. Our members also participate in several other club fundraising, membership, special program presentations, and fun activities throughout our club year in addition to those above.
